Intro
Yesterday, when I was discussing with a colleague in the company, we had a constructive conversation regarding the concept of T shaped.
For this reason, I decided to write a blog post about this concept and share it with you.
What?
T-shaped skills describe individuals who have deep expertise in one area (the vertical bar of the letter T) while having a broad understanding of many areas (the horizontal bar). This combination allows them to contribute specialized knowledge while collaborating effectively with others across functions.
In engineering, T-shaped skills are extremely valuable. They enhance team collaboration, encourage adaptability to new challenges, and foster innovation by integrating diverse perspectives. Teams built around T-shaped individuals are better equipped to handle complex projects where cross-functional understanding and expertise go hand in hand.

In short, T-shaped engineers are specialists in one area and generalists in many others. They are capable of learning and adapting, a kind of “hybrid” between specialist and generalist
